Michael Wyatt murdered Wayne Taylor 11 in a squat in Southwyck House, Somerleyton Road, Brixton. He was also convicted for the attempted murder of another 9-year-old boy.
After his conviction it was revealed that he had earlier killed a man in Jamaica where he was from having been convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months. He and the man had had a row over some cooking oil.
Wayne Taylor's body was found dead on a mattress in a squat on 21 February 1990 having been strangled. He had been buggered.
Earlier on 21 June 1989 Michael Wyatt had grabbed a 9-year-old boy who had been on his way home from playing football with freinds. He grabbed him and took him to a place between a parked car and a wall in a courtyard where he pulled down his trousers and indescently assaulted him. However, althought the boy lost consciousness, his screamed had attracted the attention of three nurses that lived in a flat above the courtyard and he ran off.
The 9-year-old boy said that he remembered that Michael Wyatt had been wearing a distinctive T-shirt with a woodpecker on it.
Michael Wyatt's palm prints were found at the scene of the crime as well as on a lavatory door at the squat where Wayne Taylor was found dead in Somerleyton Road, Brixton.
Semen was found on both of the boys and after the police took a sample of Wayne Taylor's hair after his arrest on 9 October 1990, his DNA was matched to all three samples.
